Current Goal

Travel from cache to cache in Africa. Please post pictures of beautiful places and caches you visit on your journey. Please do not take me to another continent. I'd like to stay in Africa.

This fertility doll was originally handed to us by a salesman in Port Elizabeth on our fantastic two months journey to the beautiful country of South Africa. After returning to Sweden we wanted it to return to Africa as a trackable item, and hope it will have a long and prosperous journey. Good luck!

About This Item

The Ashanti fertility dolls originate from Ghana but can be found in many other African countries in western Africa. It's given to tribal women who wants to become pregnant. The doll is carried by the woman and is cared for as if it were an actual baby while she is waiting for conception to occur. Once birth is achieved the doll will be handed down to the child who will receive the fertility doll as a toy which in turns teaches the child how to care for a young baby.

According to the myths of the Ashanti Fertility doll, the bearer of such a doll will give birth to beautiful and healthy children that will be 24 inches tall. Having children in African culture is highly desirable and an indicator of prosperity.

The fertility doll is easily recognized by the large round head and large forehead, a symbol of beauty in Africa, and a cross shaped body. By extension these figures can be thought of as good luck totems in the home.

Sorry to report your trackable has gone missing.

I was on a motorbike ride and somewhere on the route I lost my bag with my camera equipment and Travel bugs.

I am still hoping that someone picked it up and will return it to me ... but it has been over a week already.

Regards
Anton
