Current Goal

To visit the oldest existing geocache in each of the 48 continental United States. This TB has already found its way to the oldest geocache still in existence "Mingo" GC30 in Kansas, 49 to go. Side mission: each finder add a key to the chain, lets see how many we can get before we visit every state.

About This Item

I got this tag while viisting GeoHQ during a road trip I took with my dad.  During that road trip we visited the first geocache ever planted in Oregon.  Now I want this tag to make it to the oldest (original and still existing) geocache in each state.  Please take pictures of the TB at the cache (especially with each of the oldest caches in each state).

We have now met up with Route 66 and will attempt to follow it all the way to Oklahoma! How fun is that!!! Well for a bathroom break we stopped at Roy’s diner, gas and motel and of course found a cache! Very quaint and old looking. Didn’t get gas though... was like over $4!!! Then we got about 50 caches on an 800 cache power trail but I will spare the TBs visiting each of those!

Found a creative wooden cache made by a Boy Scout and his dad! He is a third generation Boy Scout. It was a boy up in the tree and the log container unwound down to you. Very neat!

This cache is the very southwest of the continental USA! Of course we had to make our cache hunting complicated by getting to the 3 mile round trip hike right at sundown. It was gorgeous being on the beach at that time, but by the time we got to the Mexico USA wall, it was pitch black! A border patrol came up to us, was very nice, but said to stay away from the wall and stick together since that had some climbers who might be hiding out after going of the wall today! Wow! So we got the cache and booked it back to the car. What a neat and exciting experience!

A visit to the Hollywood sign was a must for our trip to SoCal!!! Of course since we are avid geocachers, we must hike to the very top of the sign and tower above it! Not all the TBs could go, so they drew straws and stated everyone would get the miles, but only a few would do the work. So the selected few hopped in my backpack and off we went. Some sly work had to go into getting through people’s homes to find the trail, then it was a fairly step hike up dusty roads for about a 4 1/2 mile round trip. Such a beautiful panoramic view all the way around you of all those large cities!!! Very worth the hike!!!
I added a picture of the bugs above the Hollywood sign with the majestic view of LA. Then another picture of all the bugs down at the car!
