This travel bug has the modest goal to circulate more than five years and to be moved by at least 25 cachers. That is a rate of five drops per year for five years. As of 3-Dec-19 it had survived for 3.1 years and had been moved by 17 cachers.
Please drop it in rural OR Pre0ium Member Only caches. Do not place it in an urban cache or abandon it at a caching event where there is no security. Transport the bug in the original plastic bag for as long as the bag lasts; the bag keeps the trackable clean, protects the number and prevents tangling with other items. Otherwise, take the travel bug anywhere you wish. No permission is needed to leave the U.S.
Travel bug photos are appreciated and will be re-posted here.
I have already released several groups of art-themed travel bugs. While I have seen numerous works by British artists in my travels, I find they are underrepresented among my TBs. This is one in a small series to correct that oversight.
Leonard Campbell Taylor (1874-1969) was a British painter, mainlyof portraits and interiors in a traditional style. Among his patrons was the founding family of Courtaulds and the Courtauld Institute of Art. He was a member of the Royal Academy. He was born in Oxford, England. He was the son of James Taylor, organist at New College, Oxford and for the University of Oxford.
Taylor studied at the Dragon School preparatory school when it was still located in Crick Road under its first headmaster, Rev. A. E. Clark. He was the second of four brothers at the school, and designed a front cover for the school magazine, The Draconian, in 1900. From 1895 to 1900, he was a student as the Royal Academy School. He went on to study at Cheltenham College with a scholarship and then the Ruskin School in Oxford, before moving on to the St John's Wood Art School, London in 1905.
He exhibited primarily in London and Paris, and lived in Suffolk. He first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1899, and became a full member in 1931. During the First World War, he served as an official war artist. He served with the Surrey Volunteer Regiment from 1916 to 1917; he became a lieutenant with the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve in 1918.[3] His war art is primarily "documentary" in nature and painstakingly accurate. In 1919, he painted Herculaneum Dock, a depiction of ships in dazzle camouflage at Liverpool's docks, rendered in accurate detail.
When this painting was selected for the travel bug, I barely noticed the figure down the hall. The effect is striking when the image is viewed in a larger size. Vermeer produced a painting with the same theme and with the same name, but the surrounding structure is not rendered in the detail shown in this one.
