Travel to caches all over the world...
My mission is to travel the world looking for power. So any cache near a power plant or a cache with the word power in. But I am not limited to just power related caches. Remember motion generates power too, so move me to many caches. The more the movement the more the power. Please post photo's of the places of power.
Load Shedding:
Removal of pre-selected customer demand from a power system, as a result of the occurrence of an abnormal condition, in a effort to maintain the integrity of the system and minimize overall customer outages.
What happened:
Eskom and government have known, since 1990 that South Africa would run out of generating capacity by 2007.
When Eskom approached the South African government with this forecasted 2007 problem, the government, in the hope that an independent power producer would miraculously appear out of the wood work, ignored it. And only in 2004 gave Eskom the go ahead to start building more power stations. Obviously this was too late and has resulted in the current problem.
"Eskom was right and government was wrong," President Mbeki said on December 11 2007 in a public apology at an ANC fundraising dinner in Bloemfontein. Government was trying to encourage independent power producers to come into the market and build the new capacity that was required.
And Now:
Well South Africans are having to bear the brunt of this ignorance with power cuts at all times of the day right across the country. Disrupting our normal lives. Now people are shopping for generators as alternate modes of power. Businesses are having to deal with huge losses as their power is cut, at times, during their trading hours. All because of a government that seems to look after it's own interests and not that of the people.
What is with the TB:
In general the TB came out of the frustration of how we feel. You have the plug but it is useless. I want this to travel the world and get my hopes of power for South Africa back... Next thing I know we will have a shortage of batteries as everyone buys them for torches. There goes my cache hunts as my batteries die on the GPS. So go little TB, get me some power....
A quick note before I get a grilling again from a fellow cacher who just so happens to be employed by Eskom. I have nothing against Eskom, they are only doing what they can to help us, the people, have electricity. Load shedding is an unfortunate way of doing it but so far it is the immediate solution. As mentioned further up, Eskom warned the government about this, but the government ignored it. If anything this is just to say that I have the means to get the power but the government has just made it a lot harder.
