About This Item

Another great coin by Christian Mackey. Highly detailed and with a bronze age theme. That's what he says about the design:

It is a design called "Bronze Age" and a nod toward the incredible artistry of the earliest metal workers. It was slated as a Travel Talisman, a personal token early travelers/traders would carry to provide protection from the perils of wilderness travel. The symbol Uruz (top left) is a rune for health, strength and vigor. The symbol Kenaz (top right) is rune for physical passion. The symbol Gebo (bottom center) is a rune for "gifts" or goods of trade/commerce. The center symbol Raido is the rune of swift and safe journey. On one side, you have the ancient traveler surrounded by the most feared enemies of the traveler being wolves, mountain lions and dragons (representing super natural dangers). The ravens were omens of swift travel and emissaries of the gods so a lucky token commonly employed in early metal work. The carvings around the ravens are all original elements from some of the oldest found bronze works from the mundane to fine jewelry. The quote on the outside is from Aristotle's comment on the tenacity of the Celtic people: "One may call such a man mad or bereft of feeling, one who fears nothing, neither earthquakes nor waves as they say of the Celts." The early traders often carried luck tokens and I loved the tone of the Gebo/Gifts tradition where when a gift is accepted one must also be given of equal or greater value parallel to our caching motto.
