Greylag Goose
Anser Anser
Please help me to retrace the route of the migrating greylag goose. Bring it to the north of Africa, not crossing the equator, and then back up again to northern Germany or southern Finland!

One of the most common migrating birds of Europe, the greylag goose doesn't always fly south. If the weather stays warm enough, they may even remain at their breeding places over winter. If they do migrate they gather in big swarms and fly in the v-formation typical for so many migrating birds. Their way leads them from northern or central Europe south towards the north of Africa, often Tunisia or Algeria. Their name greylag goose comes from the fact that they supposedly tend to be the last migrating birds to leave for the south, therefore "lagging behind" the others, or so Wikipedia tells me.

in spring
I grew up in northern Germany, where each year spring and autumn would be marked by the cries of the returning or leaving migrating birds like the greylag goose or the common crane. I have always loved them and the strange melancholy of the journeys they and so many other migrating birds make each year. For me they represent the yearning for another, far-away place, but at the same time a deep-seated desire to always, always return home.
With this project I want to send off different migrating birds and try to retrace their approximate routes with the help of other geocachers!
