About This Item

So sehe ich aus / That´s how i look

I am travelbug →TB5MHDE← Nice to meet you!".

[EN] Reactive lights and magnetic beacons based on 7segment-displays are quite common in germany, but i think it is time to advance a bit in technology. Furthermore there is the problem that 7segment-displays can only display a very limited set of characters, the tracking code of e.g. this travelbug would be impossible to display. As 16segment-displays are too large to fit into PET-preforms i skipped these displays and directly started developing with 5x7 LED-DotMatrix-displays. These are capable of displaying the whole alphabet and even some more and unusual characters. The message displayed by this magnetic beacon is "Hello! I am travelbug →TB5MHDE← Nice to meet you!". Following the message a 4digit hexadecimal number is displayed which represents the number of activations of this beacon since the day it was released into the wild.
If you are used to working with a soldering iron, you can build a magnetic beacon like this by yourself following my instructions, the complete documentation is available for download under CC-BY-NC-SA on my homepage www.chrysophylax.de. If you prefer to buy one of these thingies you can purchase it at www.cachesafe.de or by contacting me.
