About This Item

Friendly Floatee - Angelfish888

In 1992, a container with 28,000 plastic rubber ducks fell overboard from a container ship en route from Hong Kong to the United States. Since that legendary day, the colony of yellow ducks have been floating halfway around the world. Some are washed up on the coast of Hawaii, Alaska, South America, Australia and the Pacific Northwest, others are found frozen in Arctic ice. Still others have somehow managed to find their way to Scotland and Newfoundland, in the Atlantic Ocean. The ducks have contributed to our understanding of ocean currents, as well as our knowledge about plastic pollution in oceans.

This duck has been specially created for "The Bathing Duck Community Celebration Event" on August 30th 2020 in Delft, The Netherlands (GC8HJWY). During the event, many bath ducks were sent into geocache waters to see how TB currents flow around the world, just like the rubber ducks that hit a container ship in 1992 and were found everywhere. Look for a new geocache for this duck to make him drift farther and farther from home like his other friends.

On http://badeendjes.reijsbergen.nu/ you can track this duck and all of the other ducks that have been released during the event, thanks to team DeFret.
