About This Item
This trackable made possible by: Scott Robinson
Growing up my parents had a ton of books. We were that family you hate to move because they effectively own a lumber yard in wood pulp (hypebolic, but necessary). Among them there were a lot of Stephen King. In fact, it was because of my parents that learned about pennames because my mother also had a lot of books by Richard Bachman who, of course, is Stephen King as well.
Among them was The Dark Tower series, specifically The Gunslinger. The cover in the box isn't right but it doesn't have the copyright restriction of the one I'm recalling (do an image search for "the dark tower blue cover").
I couldn't get into King though. Most of the works I was told to read I could never finish because they showed him to be what I affectionately refer to as a "wordy bastard". I'm an artist and storyteller like my mom and I prefer filling in the blanks than having everything spelling out through adjective and detail. I have the same issue with Tolkein and Rowling with The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, respectively. Thought HP was interesting because I enjoyed the terseness of the first book but by the time I reached the Goblet of Fire or Prisoner of Azkaban the word count of the books was so large I just couldn't finish them.
But I did love that cover though.
Origins of "hido," K.D., and the road trip
"Hido" was a greeting my mother, Kathy Bruce started saying in the mid-nineties. It was a consolidation of, "Hi, how are you doing?" into one word. Like Namaste for Enlgish speakers.
Mom's middle initial was "D". Katie was the name of her grandmother (her mom's mom). First initial plus middile initial, phonetically results in the same sound.
The Hido K.D. Road Trip is a tribute to my mother who passed away March 1st, 2019. She loved road trips and traveling. These trackables let her keep doing so for however long they last..
