Lets get Sorted At the beginning of every year at Hogwarts, the new students are sorted into their different houses by the Sorting Hat. The Sorting Hat is placed on the top of each student's head, so it can read the thoughts and dreams of the pupil, and decide which house is appropriate for him or her.
