For Rollin' Round

11 Aug 06 View Image Zoe at "The Big House" -- Michigan Stadium We also made a quick stop at Michigan Stadium. Go Blue! (Zoe's standing on the pole in the center). 11 Aug 06 View Image Zoe near the Peace Corp Medallion A medallion commemorates the place where JFK stood on the Union steps. 11 Aug 06 View Image Zoe at The Michigan Union Next, we stopped at the Michigan Union. It was on the steps of the Union that President John F. Kennedy first defined the Peace Corps on October 14, 1960. (You can see Zoe right above the "O" on the sign). 11 Aug 06 View Image Zoe at The Cube Our first stop was at "The Cube." This cool sculpture is also home to virtual cache #GC1D7F. It's huge, but you can spin it easily by giving it a push.
10 Aug 06 View Image Zoe at "City with a Halo Series 7" Zoe's third stop was at "City with a Halo Series 7" by John Piet. She's tiny compared to the sculpture, but you can see her waving from one of the windows. In the background you can see St. Paul's Church, which is a Registered Michigan Historical Site. The first services were held on the one acre parcel of land in 1837 when it was only an orchard; the church was completed in 1881. Behind the chuch is a graveyard, which is home to a micro cache (GCWXBX). 10 Aug 06 View Image Zoe at "Decision Pending" Zoe's first stop is at a statue called "Decision Pending" by Jay Holland. This statue is the most controversial in the Brighton Biennial collection because of his, well, lack of boxer shorts. In the background you can see the rock, which was dedicated in 1954 as a Veteran's memorial. It says, "We cherish the memory of those who died so that freedom may live." You can also see the Mill Pond and the "tridge," a bridge that goes three different directions instead of two. 10 Aug 06 View Image Zoe inside the "Hand" Zoe's second stop was at a sculpture most appropriately titled "Hand," by Stephanie Buer.
