The new guards It was great watching the changing of the guard. Every few steps they would stop and click their heels which would make their spurs jingle.

Quickly, move! We were hustled out of the palace at a very quick pace because something was up. It turned out to be an unscheduled changing of the guard.

Protesters Our tensions grew because of all the chanting calling for the removal of the president but we felt better with the barbed wire between them and us and soldiers all around. Little did we know that in less than 24 hours the protests would grow extremely large and violent and that in less than a week the president would escape the palace by helicopter and hide in the Brazilian embassy.

Presidental Palace This is the palace from the park across the street. There were heavily armed soldiers everywhere and the crowd of protesters was growing.
