Secret history Blickling Hall, famous for Anne Boleyne, also has a more mdoern less known history. It became the headquaters and officers mess for RAF Oulton during WWII. In 1944 it was home for the newly formed 803rd Bomb Squadron USAAF which flew B17s and B24s from the now class A airfield into Germany.
The runway can still be seen and there is a memorial to the USAAF and RAF servicemen who flew and gave their lives. A free museum now exists (to the right of this picture) chronicaling the development
