The Continental Divide - The Sign This monument marks a Continental Divide: Waters to the west and north drain to Hudson Bay; the east and south drain to the Gulf of Mexico.
In addition to being a significant remnant of prehistoric moutain - building and glaciation, it has political significance: It kept those portion of northwestern Minnesota, northeastern South Dakota and Eastern North Dakota that drain to Hudson Bay out of the United State of America until 1818.
