The acid drainage is caused by the presence of sulfide minerals such as iron pyrite, or “fool’s gold.” The exposed iron sulfide mixes with water to become sulfuric acid. 31 Jan 04 View Image Spooky Oak Spenceville Wildlife Area is on an old copper mine. http://www.consrv.ca.gov/index/AboutUs/aboutUs_SpencevilleMine.htm This article tells about the cleanup. It shows some interesting before and after pictures. The pictures we took are of the oak forest in the area. We thought this was different enough from Florida and a special place for the travel bug.
