Vardås Fort front view
Vardås is one of three forts on Nøtterøy. During World War II the Germans started a major development of a battery of Vardås. The German plan was to build a site here with three large guns, which were to prevent the Allies taking the Oslofjord and Oslo with warships. Only one of the gun positions were completed. The Germans were planning to have a crew of 900 men on Vardås when everything was finished. They would also link gun positions on Vardås to a radar, to impro
