Chateau de Montsalvens, Switzerland. The castle near the cache where the geocoin waits for its next trip. It's fabulous visiting places like this. It always makes me wonder what it was REALLY like to live in those times. Romantic...but maybe not so nice!

Gruyere, Switzerland. Fondue in Gruyere. We made a mistake some years ago...we had fondue in Gruyere. It was a big mistake. Now fondue anywhere else pales so much in comparison that we are incapable of skipping a trip to Gruyere each time we visit Switzerland. Mmmmm.....

Gruyere, Switzerland. The geocoin visits the medieval town of Gruyere. Wonderfully picturesque! And yes, this is the place where Gruyere cheese comes from. You have NOT tasted real Gruyere until you have come here and tasted 'Gruyere Alpage'...the Gruyere cheese made using the milk from the actual Gruyere alps.

Downtown Luzern, Switzerland. USA Geocoin at the Löwendenkmal (Lion Memorial)...the dying lion; another famous sight in Luzern. This was carved in 1820/1821 as a memorial to Swiss mercenaries who died in Paris on August 10, 1792 (or were guillotined shortly thereafter) in the service of King Louis XVI of France during the French Revolution. That was perhaps not the wisest choice of employer.

In the centre background (with the clock) is the tower of the Rathaus (town hall). Just visible in the far background to the right of the Rathaus tower, are two of the towers of the old medieval city wall.
