Bream head walkway entrance the carved post is a pouwhenua or guardian post.It symbolises the Kaitiaki Manaia,complete guardian of land,sea and sky.Manaia moves freely between these elements and is represented with a birds head,human form(hand)and a fish tail.
Once you pass the pouwhenua you are under the guarianship of the mighty Manaia and all his powers
