12 Feb 11 View Image The Treasury at Petra, Jordan The highlight of my Jordan visit was the full day walking tour of Petra. This ancient city, was carved into the sandstone mountains by the Nabataeans over 2,000 years ago. Petra's most famous monument "The Treasury" dramatically appeared at the end of the ravine (siq), enough to take one's breath away. 12 Feb 11 View Image Mount Nebo After our evacuation to Jordan, we visited the Baptismal site of Jesus and onto Mount Nebo, one of the most revered sites in Jordan, as this was the death place of Moses and his burial place. 12 Feb 11 View Image Jerash, Jordan Jerash in the rain 12 Feb 11 View Image Jerash, Jordan We had an amazing visit to the ancient city of Jerash, Jordan, one of the best preserved cities of the Roman Empire. Of great interest in the old walled city were the Triple Arch Gate, the huge Hippodrome, the Colonnaded Street, the Forum, the Temple of Zeus & the Temple of Artemis.
12 Feb 11 View Image Tutankhamun's Tomb What a thrill to visit the Tomb of Tutankhamun and to see where his body was found and also see his actual Mummy. 12 Feb 11 View Image Valley Of The Kings Another highlight was my visit to the ancient city of the dead - the Valley Of The Kings, where the magnificent tombs were carved into the desert rocks. 12 Feb 11 View Image Meeting a Baboon in Luxor Because of all the unrest, we were unable to enjoy a long visit to Luxor Temple but there was time for this TB to meet a resident Baboon 12 Feb 11 View Image Peaceful Demonstration in Luxor After flying to Luxor on the day the Revolution started in Tahir Square, we arrived at our luxury accommodation at King Farouk's Winter Palace. On arrival, a peaceful demonstration in support of the Cairo uprising, marched past The Winter Palace. Everyone was orderly but vocal, however we didn't feel that our safety was threatened. Not many TBs can say they have been caught up in a Revolution.
