Geocoins and travel bugs at Cataract Falls. The easiest hike of the trip. This small waterfall is very close to one of the park's visitor centers.

Another "DANGER" sign, at a single-log bridge. This wasn't the first danger sign like this we'd seen, and it wouldn't be the last. Apparently, hiking in the Smokies can be very dangerous.

Cades Cove, a step back in time. Many historic homes and buildings still remain from the community that once thrived here. Even after residents were forced out and died off, church services were still held in Cades Cove until the 1960s.

Cades Cove, where a community of settlers lived. In 1927 the government decided to incorporate Cades Cove into the national park. They forced residents to sell the rights to their land. Owners could stay on their property until their deaths, but decendants could not stay after that.

The Smoky Mountains, living up to their name. Climbing up the concrete ramp to the top of the Clingman's Dome observation tower, we were up above the clouds. Couldn't see anything but clouds in one direction.

The view from high atop Clingman's Dome. It was a very, very steep 0.2 mile climb up to the top of Clingman's Dome, then we continued on up to the top of the observation tower. But the view was definitely worth it -- until the clouds rolled in and covered up most of the scenery.

The trail to Laurel Falls was paved... ...not without its dangers, though. These danger signs made Sabrina (my wife) very nervous. She wouldn't even let me walk near the edge of the pavement.

Big dropoff at the bottom of Laurel Falls. My wife got more and more nervous the closer I got to the edge. I kind of like living on the edge, though.
