The mountain, a prominent landmark of the Phoenix metropolitan area, is located in the Camelback Mountain Echo Canyon Recreation Area between the Arcadia neighborhood of Phoenix and the town of Paradise Valley. It is a popular recreation destination for hiking and rock climbing. 16 Oct 21 View Image San Andreas Fault The San Andreas Fault is a continental transform fault that extends roughly 750 miles through California. It forms the tectonic boundary between the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate, and its motion is right-lateral strike-slip (horizontal). The fault divides into three segments, each with different characteristics and a different degree of earthquake risk. The slip rate along the fault ranges from 0.79 to 1.38 in/yr. 16 Oct 21 View Image Angel Annie w/ F. Serra on the San Andreas Fault. Junípero Serra (11/24/1713 – 8/28/1784) was a Spanish Roman Catholic priest and missionary of the Franciscan Order. He is credited with establishing the Franciscan Missions in the Sierra Gorda, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. He later founded a mission in Baja California and the first nine of 21 Spanish missions in California from San Diego to San Francisco, in what was then Spanish-occupied Alta California in the Province of Las Californias, New Spain. 26 Sep 21 View Image Angel Annie w/ Giant Jackrabbit, Joseph City, AZ. Jack Rabbit Trading Post’s Giant Rabbit is one of Arizona’s best roadside attractions. The huge fiberglass rabbit invites travelers to saddle up at this iconic Arizona Route 66 stop. Capturing a photo with the rabbit is so Insta-worthy that there’s an entire page dedicated to visitors’ images. The outpost opened during the 1940s. It’s mainly known for its Wall Drug-style signage and “Here It Is” billboard. Cherished for its roadside Americana charm, Holbrook, AZ, sits within the Painted Desert. It is located at the corner of 3rd Street and Sherman Avenue.
15 Sep 21 View Image Angel Annie and the Giant Wooden Nickel The Wooden Nickel is mounted between two telephone poles, facing the road, in a farm field near Iowa City, Iowa. It is 16’ 3” across and weighs 4,000 lbs. It was built in 2006 as a local political protest of proposed new street speed limits by Jim Glasgow, who stills maintains it. It is on the east side of Dubuque St. NE/Hwy W66, just north of where it crosses the Iowa River. 7 Sep 21 View Image Angel Annie @ Papago Buttes, Phoenix, AZ. The Buttes are situated about 5 miles East of downtown Phoenix, Arizona, and contain a variety of outstanding landforms. They were formally declared Papago Saguaro National Monument in 1914 and are now protected within Papago Park. The Buttes are composed of steeply tilted beds of the Camels Head Formation. The beds tilt down to the SW and strike NW/SE. There is a 2.3 mile heavily trafficked trail that offers the chance to see wildlife and is good for all skill levels. 1 Sep 21 View Image Angel Annie & Thumb Butte, Prescott, Arizona. Thumb Butte is a distinctive landmark just west of Prescott and also a popular hiking destination. There are several trailheads, including one that gains about 600 feet in elevation in a little more than a mile with benches for resting and descriptive signs along the way. This area has an interesting mixture of vegetation with ponderosa pine, pinyon pine, scrub oak, manzanita, yucca, and cactus. It is in the transition zone, between the desert to the south and conifer forests to the north. 1 Sep 21 View Image Angel Annie in the Prescott National Forest. The Prescott National Forest is a 1.25 million-acre US National Forest located in north central Arizona in the vicinity of Prescott. The forest is located in the mountains southwest of Flagstaff and north of Phoenix in Yavapai County, with a small portion extending into southwestern Coconino County. The Prescott Forest Reserve was established by the General Land Office on May 10, 1898. It was transferred to the U.S. Forest Service in 1906 and became a National Forest on March 4, 1907.

Located along I-10 in southern Arizona this prominent 1,500-foot peak in Picacho Peak State Park has hiking trails that wind up the peak and, often in the spring, overlook a sea of wildflowers. The park and surrounding area are known for its unique geological significance, outstanding and varied desert growth, and historical importance. The unique shape has been used as a landmark by travelers since prehistoric times.
