Carnarvon Western Australia is located North of Perth and is well known for its Bananas. Here is something else it is well known for, a USA connection!! REMEMBER Apollo 11???? well perhaps not, but it is a huge part of history. The OTC Dish established by NASA in 1966 as a satellite communications and tracking station. The station was involved in the Gemini and Apollo space missions, Australia's first TV satellite program and also played a role intercepting halley's Comet prior to ceasing
20 Dec 06 View Image Bronze statue depicting "Aussie Mateship" The Desert Corps and War Memorial located at Mt Clarence in the heart of Albany high atop the two "mountains" (we dont have anything as large as you do in the USA) that enclose Albany. It stands as a stark reminder of their valiant war effort and also a reminder that the Australian Army contingent departed from Albany for Gallipoli. The site also provides for some fantastic views of Princess Royal Harbour.
