Smokey Bear This particular fire was started by some boy scouts building a fire in an area where fires weren't authorized. Well over a million dollars spent fighting this fire. Smokey and I are getting depressed...Aim High!

Finally Francis Peak Comes Into View I was hoping Smokey would be able to see Francis Peak before we left today. The two "golf balls" you see are radar domes that are owned/operated/maintained by the FAA. The radar is used to help control high altitude aircraft traffic transiting the area. the domes are at about 9,400 feet.

On Top of Bountiful Peak Smokey's sitting next to an old triangulation station. You're looking almost due north towards Francis Peak. There's two benchmarks very close by.

Smokey at Pine Rock Smokey is resting on way of the neatest boulders I've come across. Look in the background (across the canyon) and on top of that big rock face--that's where we found the first cache this morning, "Peak above Utah Jean (Formerly Holy Crap)".

Smokey Bear Close-up Same rock but just close up. There was a huge fire just to the west off this peak during 2003. I'll probably place him right in the middle of the burn out area later on.

Smokey Bear Looking to the west from Peak above Utah Jean cache. Very hazy today in the valley. You're looking down into Farmington, UT and the Great Salt Lake further to the west.
