If a body or coffin is placed in an in-ground tomb in New Orleans, there is risk of it being water-logged or even displaced from the ground. For this reason, the people of New Orleans have generally used above-ground tombs. Personally, I think they look super cool! ?? Renowned in life and revered in death, some say she continues to work her magic from beyond the grave. Laveau died in 1881, and is buried in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, in the tomb of her husband's family, the Glapions. People would scribble Xs on the whitewashed mausoleum in hopes Laveau will grant their wishes. A large fine is now in place for any visitor who attempts to write on the grave. ?? The National WWII Museum tells the story of the American experience in the war that changed the world, why it was fought, how it was won, and what it means today. If you get an opportunity to visit, I highly recommend. ?????? Log image uploaded from Geocaching® app
12 Jan 24 View Image USS Kidd (DD-661), a Fletcher-class destroyer, was the first ship of the United States Navy to be named after Rear Admiral Isaac C. Kidd, who died on the bridge of his flagship USS Arizona during the 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Admiral Kidd was the first US flag officer to die during World War II and the first American admiral ever to be killed in action. A National Historic Landmark, she is now a museum ship, berthed on the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. ?? Log image uploaded from Geocaching® app 11 Jan 24 View Image One interesting history at the Louisiana State Capitol was the location of the assassination of US Senator and former Louisiana Governor, Huey P. Long. Long was shot in the Capitol building in front of the governor’s office by Dr. Carl Weiss. In fact you can still see a bullet hole in one of the columns. Out front is a statue of Long. In the picture, you can see the park and statue from top of the 27th floor of the Capitol. ?????? I am getting close to half way there so when I flew into New Orleans, I decided that I would rent a car and drive up to Baton Rouge to check off State Capitol #22 on my list! The Louisiana State Capitol is a large tower that you can go to the top of the 27th floor to the observation deck. Have you visited any State Capitols? Log image uploaded from Geocaching® app
