Just a stroll along the Saint's way to Prideaux and back past Charleston Leate to Luxulyan with Mr VJH and my Dad, such a shame that a lot of the Halo series has been Archived, 9km, 15,000 steps and 70 flights of stair equivalent, and 9 geocaches including 2 D/T rating of 5 as a bonus Unfortunately I've lost my lovely purple pen on the walk/Hike so had to use one of the colourful crayons in the cache to sign my find
15 Mar 20 View Image Stonehenge Travelling to Cornwall to visit my parents, stopped here as a surprise Birthday Present for Mr VJH ( he's into history) good excuse to do a cache too. managed to dodge the showers and the tourists by walking the 25 minutes walk there and back ( there is a bus but we were avoiding mixing due to Covid -19) . managed a quick self to qualify. 22 Nov 19 View Image Spitfire TB 752 is one of the few surviving Spitfires with a wartime record. Built at Castle Bromwich in the early part of 1944 she entered service with the famous No. 66 Squadron at RAF Linton-on-Ouse in March 1945 bearing the Squadron Code LZ-F. Carrying an armament of 2 x 20mm cannons and 4 x 0.5 machine guns as well as a 500 lb bomb and 2 x 250 lb bombs: she was used initially against road and rail targets in Northern Holland and Germany 4 Nov 19 View Image The Day of Lyndens Funeral Cache and dash on my way to Sandy Balls for the funeral of my dear friend Lynden Bowen. Lynden (née Westlake) Born on 4th October 1954, sadly died on 8th October 2019 (aged 24 according to her), after a brief battle with cancer. Both Lynden & I Were Queens Guides as were her sisters ( her mother was a Guide leader) .Lynden was also Cub Scout Leader in Copythone -Hamspshire UK. 2 Nov 19 View Image Old red Telephone box and post box Up in Upham collecting the fine pair for the 100 cahes in 30 days and 30 nights challenge. forecast was 88% rain, so a series of cache and dash arranged rain had eased so we thought we'd mange the Upham circuit to get them all while we were here 1 Nov 19 View Image King Alfred Statue - Winchester Hampshire One of the most easily recognisable landmarks in Winchester is the striking statue of King Alfred the Great, which stands at the eastern end of The Broadway, close to the site of the city's medieval East Gate. The statue of a suitably heroic Alfred was designed by Hamo Thornycroft, R.A., and erected in 1899 to mark one thousand years since Alfred's death 31 Oct 19 View Image The graveyard The Asylum's graveyard where 5,578 people are buried still remains, although now old and it would seem forgotten. Trees are now growing through the graves which has caused the headstones to crack & break. The pauper’s graves in the older part of the cemetery were marked with a small metal cross with no names,as there were up to four paupers per grave.Covering each body was a little soil before the next body was laid on top.Sadly, many of these simple metal crosses have been stolen over the year 30 Oct 19 View Image THE OLD TOWER - HAMPSHIRE The old tower which stands in the churchyard at St John the Baptist Church is all that remains of the first ‘Chapel of Ease’ built on this site in 1828. The chapel seated 272 parishioners but after 40 years the roof of the chapel began to leak and it was proposed that a new church (St John the Baptist) should be built in its place.

From its inception its function was to provide for the educational, recreational and leisure pursuits of the men of Hambledon and neighbourhood - it took 20 years before the ladies were welcomed! 28 Oct 19 View Image Soberton Village Hall Located in the picturesque village of Soberton the hall is reguarly hired for wedding receptions, events, parties, theatre productions, conferences and meetings.
