This is no ordinary geocaching trading item!

Barry Dragonfly is a Travel Bug Dog Tag Travel Bug, traveling from geocache to geocache on a very specific mission.

Trackable ItemIf you do not intend to log your visit on the Geocaching.com web site, please DO NOT TAKE THIS ITEM. Its travels and its progress requires you to log that it is being taken from this geocache. You will also need to log when you place it in another geocache. It's easy!

If you are willing to log your part of this Trackable's journey and place it in another geocache as soon as possible (after you log your find), grab it from this geocache.

My Current Goal:

Before the advent of the written word, family histories were spread by word of mouth; sitting around the fire as they spoke of their ancestors. Today, ancestry can be found by opening a book, unearthing a document, or “turning a leaf” upon the Internet. We have lost the joys of sharing the experience of telling stories and learning from the follies and triumphs of our past. While I cannot get to meet everyone and learn of your varied lives, I hope to experience them through my friend, Barry Dragonfly.

For this travel bug, when you have found Barry and his tag, you will write a short story about him (in the comment section) and what he has encountered in his travels. I will share a short prompt and the first person to pick up Barry will write a short story concerning this topic. The next person who finds Barry will continue on with the first person’s story, and so forth. This will continue to grow and grow until it becomes an epic story about Barry and his travels. Think of it as a modern-day The Odyssey with Barry as Odysseus.

My goal is for him to reach Syracuse, Italy at the Giardini Iblei (GC1PB15) by December 13, 2012. After this, I would love for him to reach his home again. Thank you and happy hunting!

Here's the beginning of the story...

Imagine Barry arrived to a New World aboard a ship. Share what he might see or encounter upon his first foray into this vast and undiscovered land.
