This is no ordinary geocaching trading item!
SP to the Golden Spike is a Holiday Travel Bug- Happy Holidays Tag Travel Bug, traveling from geocache to geocache on a very specific mission.
If you do not intend to log your visit on the Geocaching.com web site, please DO NOT TAKE THIS ITEM. Its travels and its progress requires you to log that it is being taken from this geocache. You will also need to log when you place it in another geocache. It's easy!
If you are willing to log your part of this Trackable's journey and place it in another geocache as soon as possible (after you log your find), grab it from this geocache.
My Current Goal:
I want to go to Promontory, UT and visit the site of the Golden Spike. There is a virtual at the site called "Golden Spike GC6FD7" Golden Spike
It is where the transcontinental railroad was connected.
The SP (Southern Pacific) wasn't there but the railroad that became the SP was there. It was the Central Pacific rr then and it is the SP now. The Central Pacific RR built from Sacramento, CA to Promontory, Utah (west to east). They built from 1863 to 1869 and built 690 miles of track through many mountain ranges and other tough terrain.
It would be great to be dropped in any of the "Making Tracks to Promontory" series of geocaches nearby the golden spike site. here is a link to #11 nearest to the Golden Spike Making Tracks to Promontory #11
