Every North German knows it, the Wadden Sea. An ecosystem that is geologically so interesting and at the same time important that extends from the Netherlands via Germany to Denmark. In terms of time, the Wadden Sea is only 8,000 years old and therefore still a very young ecosystem that was created by the Ice Ages. Nevertheless, it has developed in very diverse ways. The main focus is on the tides, which flood the area of action of the tidal flats when the tide rises and drains it when the tide drops. In addition to huge mudflat systems, there are beach banks, islands and salt marshes. Due to the constant alternation between ebb and flow, there is a high level of dynamism and continuous change in the tidal flats, channels and tides. The latter should bring you closer to this Earthcache, because there is also an extensive tidal creek system before Cuxhaven on the way to Neuwerk.
