The Sentier de Grande Randonée GR1 NC, or the Great Trekking Trail, is a (at present) seven stage hike across the lower half of New Caledonia. It begins at the abandoned forced labor mining town of Prony and proceeds north and west to end at the newer dam of Dumbea. You can read about the entire GR1, in English or French, right here.
My daughter and I will attempt to walk all seven stages over the next few months. We have completed Stage 1 and Stage 2. A couple of months before we started, we placed a cache to mark the start of the GR1: Au debut de GR1.
This stage is officially 19.5 km, but we skipped the end parts so our hike, highlighted here in this geotrack, was 15.4 km. This cache is placed at the summit of the one semi-serious hills you have to climb - at Agathis Pass. There are many beautiful vistas along the way. You also have to cross Pernod Creek which might be impassable after heavy rains. A few pictures of the hike can be seen here.

Elle commence au travail forcé ville minière abandonnée de Prony et procède au nord et à l'ouest à la fin du plus récent au barrage de Dumbéa. Cette étape est officiellement 19,5 km, mais nous sauté les parties d'extrémité de sorte que notre randonnée, mis en évidence dans cette geotrack, était 15,4 km. Ce cache est placé au sommet des collines une semi-graves que vous avez à monter - au Agathis Pass. Il ya beaucoup de beaux paysages le long du chemin. Vous avez également de traverser Creek Pernod qui pourraient être impraticables après de fortes pluies. Quelques photos de la randonnée peuvent être vus ici.
