This cache is in a very interesting and scenic area near
Connellsville, Pennsylvania. The suggested route to the cache
passes by the site of the Casparis
quarry mine and an excellent view of the Youghiogheny River valley
through Chestnut Ridge.
Directions: Turn from Route 119 at McDonalds and follow
Pittsburgh Street south through Connellsville until it ends at a T.
Turn left and follow a rough gravel road up and out of town for 1.5
miles to a fork in the road. Take the right fork, cross through a
stream, and follow this road and your GPS to the cache.
WARNING: The condition of the "road" to the cache from
Connellsville is iffy and it generally gets worse as you go. During
winter months it will almost certainly be impassible. Park and walk
if your vehicle cannot handle it. It is a pleasant walk to the
cache from the stream crossing if you can make it that far. Do not
approach or enter the mines under any circumstances! Go slow, be
careful, and have fun!
Note: This cache is located on Pennsylvania State
Gamelands. During the peak deer season (November 15 - December 15,
except Sundays), you must "wear a minimum of 250 square
inches of daylight fluorescent orange-colored material on the head,
chest and back combined or, in lieu thereof, a hat of the same
colored material. The material shall be worn so it is visible in a
360° arc".
