shish-K.A.-bob Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

CCCooperAgency: Sorry guys! Guess we got our signals crossed somewhere because when I called you on the cell RIGHT AFTER THE T-STORM on Friday, I could have sworn that I mentioned PULLING this one when I did Uh-Oh Reviewer, I MissPlaced My Cache!

Well the only right thing for me to do is to allow you a SMILEY for the HARD WORK because I do know the effort and exertion involved in this mountainous trek. IF you can find the cache at my 'home base', you can sign the logbook and turn the DNF into a FIND.

You don't need the coordinates to 'home base', do ya? [;)]
I'd post them here but don't want them in the public domain.

Geocache Description:

We wanted to *roast* Pennsylvania's very own K.A. (Keystone Approver to you!) and what better way than with a cache...

Cache is standard,50-cal. olive drab ammo can with special K.A. detailing. Contents include a *gift* ziplock bag ear-marked for K.A. along with an assortment of Geo Goodies and logbook. Please make your trade from the OTHER bag!

This journey will take you into the vast domain known as St. Anthony's Wilderness (aka SGL #211)above Harrisburg, PA. There is a DEFINITE elevation gain from 450'-1650'.

Information can be found at: (visit link)
Photos at: (visit link)

Trip time and terrain varies depending your approach. We recommend you study the area topography and the AT Trail Map (Sections 7 & 8) and consider your physical fitness carefully before choosing your method of approach. Also, since this is a WILDERNESS area, come sufficiently prepared with the following (not inclusive!) list of items:

first aid,including SNAKE BITE kit
good supply of water
hiking stick
cell phone

With proper planning, you can add these caches onto the journey - Lest We Forget (GC8494)
Truth Or Consequences (GC8492)
Starbuckian Dream (GC82D4)

One possible parking area is the AT/SGL lot along Rte. 325 @N40 27.081 W76 46.568. From there you may take the longer scenic approach with a gradual incline following the white-blazed AT to the yellow-blazed Horseshoe Trail. The terminus for the 121 mile Horseshoe Trail is at N40 27.266 W76 43.270. Follow the Horseshoe Trail until your compass directs a hard right @.19 miles at which point you will pick up the Rattling Run Trail (orange-blazed) to the Devils Race Course (N40 26.044 W76 46.222). Cache is located 232'@304 degrees. Bear in mind that this route is approx. 6 miles one-way.

We also utilized a short cut for a less enjoyable but speedy return following the orange blazes back to the blue trail. This is approx. 1.34 miles from the cache but is an overgrown, rock-strewn narrow pathway. THERE ARE SNAKES!!! Mrs. CCCA came within a foot of stepping on an angry rattler so travel this path at your own risk! Also, this orange trail is not easily discerned from the blue trail where our other cache is hidden - we bushwacked out close to N40 26.671 W76 46.829. It is very overgrown!

An alternate approach would be to come in from the SGL lot along the old RR grade from the Ellendale Forge side of the mountain(s).
