When: Sunday June the 6th 2010 from 8pm 'til 9pm. The park
closes at 9.30pm
Where: In historic Greenwich
Park, overlooking the Thames and Docklands.
Why: As an evening event to compliment goldpot's noon
'GC4E England’s First!' (GC253NT) event 13.2 miles to the
south-west. Also, I love how caching is an excuse to do some random
stuff. Take my
GC1WD50 - Britain's Fourth Most Remote Event Cache (Jersey),
GC22370 - In The Unlikely Event... (Les Minquiers),
GC226KJ - The Hunting of the Sark! ,
GC229XC - Herm is where the heart is!,
GC229YY - Guernsey Gathering and
GC229YB - All the way to Alderney events for example; all
coming in June...
What: A small evening picnic-style* event in beautiful
surroundings to celebrate ten golden years of caching in Britain
and to be the first (tbc) caching event to straddle hemispheres.
Feel free to bring a Frisbee or football for some 'informal fun',
as it says on the website. There will be caching chit-chat and
swapping of travel items.
Who: The event is open to cachers from far and wide!
Please log your interest in attending so I can monitor numbers.
With the hiding of boxes sadly banned from the Royal Parks,
including Greenwich Park -the oldest one- this event and the nearby
Virtual cache may be visitors' only chance to cache in Greenwich
Park. However, there are many caches beyond its confines. Dogs with
responsible owners are welcome too.
*Please note: "To ensure everyone enjoys the
Parks fully, we ask that you refrain from the following:
Collecting or soliciting money - if you are
holding a charity picnic, any collections must take place outside
of the park boundary, you may need to check this with your local
authority - This is a free-to-attend event and there will be no
charity aspect.
Corporate advertising and distribution of
leaflets - if you are holding an informal staff picnic you will not
be permitted to display any corporate banners or distribute
promotional material - So please leave any paperwork at
home!
Cooking or barbecuing in the Parks - as well as
being a fire hazard, abandoned barbecues can be a hazard to other
visitors and to wildlife. Catering outlets in each of the parks
sell a selection of hot and cold food - Please only bring cold
food.
Using glassware - we ask that you use plastic
cups and bottles where possible. Broken glass is a hazard to other
visitors and wildlife and very difficult to remove from parkland -
Plastic bottles only please.
Playing ball games - ball games are only
permitted in certain areas of some of the Parks. If you want to
play ball games, please contact the park office to find out where
you should play.
Playing loud music - please be considerate to
other park users.
Fixing anything to trees or driving anything
into the ground.
Erecting tents, marquees or other
structures.
Releasing balloons in the parks - please
remember to be careful when bringing balloons into the park, as
when released they get caught up in the trees and are hard to
remove. They can also be a hazard to the wildlife in the park. Mass
balloon releases are not permitted in the Parks for these
reasons.
We have no objection to alcoholic drinks, but
they must be available free of charge (i.e. not for sale), and for
consumption by your guests only. And of course, alcohol must only
be made available to persons over the age of 18.
Remember, before you leave the Park to collect
all of your litter together to take with you. Please do not leave
any items unattended at any time, both to protect your items from
theft and also to prevent them causing a possible security alert -
I think it would also be nice to do some CITO (Cache In Trash
Out - basically litter collection) while leaving the event to show
the Royal Parks what a power for good geocaching can be. Feel free
to bring a bag and gloves to help the groundsfolks.
Above all, please be considerate, so other
people can enjoy the park too. We hope you enjoy your day in the
Royal Parks.
A number of The Royal Parks Regulations are
displayed on selected park notice boards. A complete set of
regulations are listed on The Royal Parks website. - Where this
information came from."
