Geocache Description:

* * * TOUGH FIND IN WINTER * * *
Located in the Castle Hill Conservation area. Well defined trails which were once a colonial road.

Subtract one star from the difficulty rating if you are familiar with CacheNCarryMA's "Wayland style" of hiding caches.

"Wayland 5.0 - Vespula's Castle", archived in July 2005, was an experiment in the use of building materials in geocache making - a recycled pretzel jar covered with expansion foam, cut and painted to look like a hornet's nest.

PARKING Parking at Alpine Road athletic fields (off Route 126 and Sherman's Bridge Road).

TRAIL Trailhead is on the left side of the field behind the third base coach's box (N42°23.764 W71°21.373). The Town of Wayland Conservation Department has replaced the washed out wooden bridge with a nifty steel beam and trex bridge.

After you cross the bridge, you have two choices at the fork in the trail -- left, high road, steeper trail along the top of the esker with a view of the pond in one spot; right, low road, a longer less steep path.

Dogs welcome on leash or under voice control. Dense foliage may make it tough to get a good GPS signal; bring a printout of the topo map.

CACHE Square plastic (1 quart?) peanut jar. If you have trouble removing or replacing the cache, try rotating it ninety degrees.
