Ashdown Forest Beaver Scout Hunt is a series of
eight caches arranged around a short circular walk (3-3½ miles) on
Ashdown Forest. The walk was designed with the local Beaver / Cub /
Scouts in mind, and can be completed within 2-3 hours with
appropriately aged kids (kids optional though!)
There are six traditional caches (five of which contain clues to
the location of the bonus cache), one micro (which contains the
full location of the bonus cache) and the bonus itself.
All the traditional caches are small Tupperware boxes, with some
small swaps, logbook and pens. The Micro is a black 35mm film
canister and the bonus is a full blown ammo box, complete with 1st,
2nd, 3rd and 4th to find certificates.
Plenty of parking can be found at N51°03.433 E00°06.098, and if
you do the circular walk, it’s worth noting that there is a
bridge across the small stream at N51°04.104 E00°06.181
*UPDATE* After several DNF's, the clue has been updated as the
cache appears to have crept a few feet from it's original placing -
Thanks to MrB-PWC for the update.
When we set the caches (January), the area was quite waterlogged
/ muddy, so you’ll need decent footwear.
This cache is No.1 in the series.
The recommended order for the series is
No.1,
No. 2,
No. 3,
No. 7 (the micro),
No. 4,
No. 5,
No. 6,
No. 8 (the bonus). Remember that Nos 7 & 4 are optional;
but because No. 7 reveals the full location of the bonus, we put it
at the opposite end of the walk. You can get a rough map of the
route
here
If you're in the area for a while, you could also try our nearby
Owens cache, and our two micros on the outskirts of nearby
East Grinstead -
Sackville College and
Meridian.
