I was not sure what my write-up for this cache was going to be.
If I wanted to tie things back to the ancestor of ours that is the
oldest, then I could have had a nice play on words and named this
one “Deacon’s Decon” had I hid a decon container here as that
ancestor is Deacon James Parker. I didn’t make that type of hide so
I can’t have that sort of fun!
What I can do is tie all of the Parkers that are buried here in
to our family tree and, I’m sure, many of the other names that are
here as well. I haven’t gotten that far in the research so I will
leave it at the Parkers.
Starting from the top, if you locate Deacon James Parker, you
will have found my Great Great Great Great Great Grandfather. The
“youngest” of my relatives would be my Grandmother, Pauline Parker.
All the others fit in between.
You can actually locate the cache from outside the cemetery as
well as inside. Pay your respects to the many veterans and
firefighters that can be found here.
Some Thurman history as seen on Wikipedia:
“John Thurman was one of a group of investors who started
the town's settlement in 1790 at Elm Hill. The Town of Thurman was
established in 1792. Originally the town was called Athol by early
settlers, but when Warren County was established in 1813, much of
the town was lost to the new Town of Warrensburg and the remainder
was still called Athol. Athol was divided in 1852 to form the Town
of Thurman and the Town of Stony Creek.”
One of my relatives was named Thurman. You can visit him at the
other cache I hid in the Pendell Cemetery.
Please visit only during hours of operation. This would
generally be from Dawn to Dusk.
Come visit these other caches if you are interested in cemetery
caches that will challenge you!
