Geocache Description:

This cache is located on Mokolii Island, better known as Chinaman’s Hat. According to legend, the island is a fluke from the tail of a large dragon. Hi`iaka, sister of the goddess Pele, slew the creature and threw its tail into the bay. Mokolii, which means “little lizard,” is said to be part of the tail.

You can walk to the island at low tide. The island is 0.4 miles off shore at the nearest point. I prefer to kayak. Either way, be aware of the tides and surf.

The cache is located on the northern side of the island along a trail that leads right up to a cliff face, which is about 170 feet above sea level. The trail does not lead to the top of the island, don't even try it!! The cache is in a small hole about eye level. Beware of the many critters that guard the cache!

While on the island, you may want to try to hike to the top, there you’ll get some great views of Oahu.
As a bonus, benchmark TU1463 is found at the top. There is a trail to get to the top found on the southern side of the island. It does get rather steep, if not vertical, at times. Watch out for the birds.

Also something to check out is the small beach on the northern side. Though narrow and sometimes rough, it has a nice sandy bottom.
