Geocache Description:

I have so much fun driving down this hill, I always wondered how much fun it would be riding down this hill. You are welcome to come find out with us on September 6th.

This will be a repeat of the event on 6/29/08 with a few slight modifications. We will be starting the ride at the intersection of Mormon Emigrant Trail (AKA Iron Mountain Road) and Silverfork Road (waypoint below). From there we will be bike riding down to the MET Informational Sign just west of Bonetti Road which is just a couple of miles uphill of Sly Park Reservoir. If you don't wish to ride that far, that's fine too. Ride however far you wish and we'll get you back to your vehicle.
From Silverfork Road to Sly Park is approx 20 miles (32 km), but almost entirely downhill. You will lose about 4200 ft in elevation while only gaining about 650 ft. This ride should be suitable for either a road bike or mountain bike.
Besides riders, we will also be looking for volunteers to shuttle, man the "watering holes" along the way, and simply provide moral support for those doing the ride. Please let us know how you wish to participate in this event in your log.

For those riding, helmets are highly encouraged and I'd say a must. MET is not exactly "busy", but cars do go fast so riders should stay as far to the right and single file as much as possible. We will also have the awesome signs Cold Springer made posted so that motorists are aware of the bicyclists.
According to the riders in the earlier June event, they did not ride their brakes as much as I made it sound like they would - even from someone who has a tendency to pick up a LOT of momentum (I won't mention any names ).
Nonetheless I highly suggest making sure your brakes are in excellent working order and have a sufficient amount of brake pad life.
I will have a tire pump, shock pump, and bike chain grease if anyone needs it.
You are welcome to ride one mile or the entire length - we'll get you back to your vehicle one way or another.
This is by no means intended to be a race, and of course you are welcome to stop by and pick up any of the fine caches along MET as you head down the hill.

Also, if anyone does not plan on attending but has a bike rack they wish to loan, we may be in need.

I'd like to meet at the MET Informational Sign (posted coords) at 9am. From there we will shuttle to the top and start riding about 9:30 -9:45 am. If it is easier for you to meet us at the top i.e. start of the ride, that's fine too - meet there around 9:30 am. I'll need to drive back up to collect the signs so I (or someone) can shuttle you back up.

Remember, you don't have to make the ride to sign the log - the only requirement is to come out and have fun.

Note: as of posting date, there are NO other events scheduled in California for September 6th.
