A key sequence of the film (learn more about it here) is when Sergeant Howie visits the churchyard (or is it?) and the school. This cache brings you to both locations at Anwoth Old Kirk and you're encouraged to bring your own Maypole to dance around. To reach the cache there's no need to enter the graveyard, but if you wish to it's an interesting place to explore in a responsible fashion. The small dwelling opposite is, indeed, an old school house.
Other locations used for filming:
Gatehouse of Fleet - The Green Man pub (exterior) - actually estate offices near The Mason's Arms.
Creetown - The Green Man pub (interior) - Actually the bar of the Ellangowan Hotel.
Kirkcudbright - May Morrison's shop and the hobbyhorse chase scene - Now an art gallery/shop near the police office.
Whithorn - The "We carry death out of the village" and library scenes - The library, built in 1911, is on the main road.
Castle Kennedy - The 'jumping over the fire' dance and the procession scenes towards the end of the film - No standing stones and £4 per adult entrance. Near GC51RAJ
The Old Man of Storr on Skye - Opening credits as Howie flys over them - home to my The Wicker Man - Corn Rigs and Barley Rigs cache.
Plockton - The opening scenes of the village - home to my The Wicker Man - A missing child is always trouble cache.
St.Ninian's Cave & Burrow Head - final scenes of the film - home to my The Wicker Man - Our more dreadful sacrifice cache.
Cluzean Castle - exterior (and one internal) scenes of Lord Summerisle's home.
Port Logan - used as Lord Summerisle's gardens.
Sadly my father died the day after I set this cache. As he loved the film too, this cache is dedicated to the memory of Mike Smith. 1940-2005.
