The end sequences of the film (learn more about it here) were shot on this beach and a couple of miles south east along the coast, at Burrow Head. You're encouraged to bring your own ale to pour into the sea. To reach the cache you'll need to park a mile away and follow signs 'To St.Ninian's Cave'. There's no need to enter the cave, which is an early christian site, but if you wish to it's an interesting place to explore in a responsible fashion. The scenes where Sergeant Howie [spoiler] and where a barrel of ale is rolled into the sea were shot here. The cache is hidden a few hundred feet away from the cave, in a large crevice in the cliff.
For more of a walk, follow the beautiful coast path about two miles south east to N54 40.691 W004 24.274 where you'll find the remains of the Wicker Man who was burned for the very last shot of the film. Before you get there you'll cross a headland with a flat platform of grass, scene of the main 'burning'. Just below it, to the right as you look out to sea, is where Howie reappears after being in the caves and discovers all hasn't been as he imagined it... There's also a cache in the area, but the legs featured in the photo on this page were stolen in November 2006 by people worthy of your contempt. For a bonus brownie point, what's written in the concrete and/or tarmac that was holding the legs up? .
