Ford Motor Company has had continuous operations in Louisville
since 1913. This is the second cache in a series at or near past and
present Ford plants.

Construction of the present Kentucky Truck Plant began in 1968 and the first truck rolled off the assembly line 4 August, 1969. Since then the plant has produced the following vehicles: CL heavy truck (pictured above), Louisville L-Series heavy truck, C "Tilt" heavy truck, Cargo medium truck, F-Series medium truck, B-Series bus chassis, United Parcel Service medium chassis, "Aeromax" and "Louisville" Heavy Trucks, Ford Excursion, and several iterations of the F-Series Super Duty pickups. The plant currently assembles the Ford Super Duty pickups, Ford Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator.
In addition to vehicle assembly, a sheetmetal stamping plant was added to the southern end of the property in 2005.
The plant is one of the largest vehicle assembly plants in the world with 4,626,490 square feet under roof.
Over the years the plant has received many awards, but most recently it received the 2008 Environmental Leadership Award. The KTP paint team developed a zero-VOC (volatile organic compound) solvent which is used to purge atomizers of residual paint between different color applications. Prior to the new “green” solvent, the color change process generated more than 200,000 gallons of hazardous waste annually and required the use of more than 78 tons of VOC-containing solvents. Four of the 78 tons of VOC purge material were used in an unrecoverable process and were emitted annually.
