The Cobbler - possibly Scotland's favourite mountain?
The Cobbler, or Ben Arthur to use the correct name, sits at 884m
- just shy of a Munro - but is still one of Scotland's most
spectacular mountains due to its unusual skyline and fabulous
views.

Tuesday the 7th August at 10am is your chance to climb this well
loved mountain in the company of other Geocachers. Despite the
mountain's height, this is an easy ascent as the paths are well
made and used. It should be suitable for the kids to come along
too.
All you have to do is turn up at the above co-ords in time to
leave at 10am. These co-ords are for a convenient car park just
across the road from the start of the route. It is a Pay &
Display car park costing £1 for the day. The route is approximately
5.5miles there and back. Hopefully the walk will take between 3 - 5
hours, however this is not the set pace. You can set your own pace
and do not need to feel that you are holding anyone back or being
held back. It is, after all, a day to be enjoyed.
There are 2 caches on the way up. Firstly, The Narnain Stones enroute and at the top is
A Fine Corbett. Shunter has supplied a
route map which was taken from his GPS
tracklog.
The Summit
If you don't think you can make the walk, then not to worry. If
everything goes to plan we should all be able to meet up at Ben
Arthur's Bothy by 4pm, which is a family friendly pub that serves
food. The co-ords for the pub are below, which will get you within
the general area of the pub. It is located on the A83 as you drive
through Arrochar. I have been told it should be easy to find!
Note: The pub does allow dogs in the bar area but not the
lounge, due to food being served. Most people may want a meal after
the climb? So anyone with a dog may be in a different area to the
rest of us!
Warning: Although you will be in the company of people
who have done this type of challenge before, your safety is your
responsibility. Please come prepared for a day out on a mountain.
Even if it is sunny you will need warm clothing, waterproofs and
sturdy boots, as well as food and plenty of water. Care will need
to be taken as there are sheer drops over the side of cliffs and
children should be supervised at all times.
If you are interested in coming along then please put this event
page on your watchlist. Timings may be subject to change,
and I shall post a note with any updates that I make.
If you wish to discuss anything about the event you can do so
either on GeoX or on the main Groundspeak Forum.
