Enigma: Mission 4 - Golf, Cheese & Chess Society Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Boneychest & Catsuey: The Enigma series has had a good run but we've decided that now is the time to archive these caches.

Thank you to the 198 cachers/teams that have logged a find on one or more of the series and congratulations to the 26 of you who completed the final mission - we hope you enjoyed the challenge even if it did addle your brain (and hopefully nobody got divorced over it).

The final mission will be left open for a while to allow those who are still pondering the puzzle time to crack the code and claim their prize.

If you are after the toolkit for Mission 4, this is what you would have found:

Geocache Description:

Enigma. Noun, from the Latin word aenigma, meaning puzzle. Used for something that has an unknown meaning or purpose.

This is the fourth in a series of 6 caches. Each of the first five contains either coded information or tools that you will need in order to locate the final cache. You need to find all of the first five caches before you can crack the sixth and final part.

You will need this! Park at N52* 22.207 W000* 25.731

At a hidden location 50 miles outside London, Britain's best-kept secret played a major part in winning World War II. Known as Station X (after the radio call sign of the radio room that was housed in the turreted water tower), Bletchley Park was the largest code-breaking establishment the world had ever seen. It was at Station X that the enigma cypher was cracked so that the allies could read the Germans' coded messages. The official title of the unit at Bletchley Park was the Government Code and Cypher School (GCCS) but it was irreverently referred to as the Golf, Cheese and Chess Society.

And what has Molesworth got to do with Bletchley park?

RAF Molesworth is home to the American Joint Analysis Centre (JAC), whose mission is to analyze information gathered for the United States and NATO. The JAC feeds intelligence into America’s Global Command and Control System (GCCS), providing surveillance and reconnaissance information to military commanders. (And you need to go there to discover the secrets of the enigma).

The tower and fencing that you can see from the cache is the former nuclear missile site, scene of many demonstrations during the 1980's.

See the instructions on how to use the codesquare.

16/11/06 Update.

The footpath across the field has been ploughed again.
From the corner, look across to two large trees - you should be able to make out a marker post in the hedge close to the right hand tree. Head straight for it!
