Silverstone Circuit No.3 - COPSE Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Simply Paul: I dropped by while doing a local series and -after a bit of poking about in the wood with solly- found the cache crushed into the mud and playing house to at least two toads. Nice! Recovered the remains, helped the toads to safety and decided not to replace this squashed ammo can with a micro -as that's all I had on me- Thus another cache goes off to the Big Swiss Clinic in the sky. Thanks to everyone who looked for it, well done to those who found it and tough luck to those who didn't. And no thanks to the driver who rolled his tractor (or similar) over it!

Geocache Description:

The thunder of engines! The screech of tortured tyre rubber! The roar of the crowd! The flicker of flame from an exhaust! This cache brings you them all, thanks to 3.194 miles of Silverstone Circuit.

Silverstone Circuit No.3 - COPSE (Bucks/Northants border)

Silverstone Circuit Map.This is 3/3 of a short series of caches that take you around the world famous Silverstone Race Track, which straddles the Bucks/Northants border. After the success of 'SpeedCaching' at my HAMPDEN'S MONUMENT cache (the record is around 20 seconds from car to logbook!) I thought it might be fun to do something similar, but on a larger scale. Where better than a motorsport circuit? The added bonus of this cache series is that you can watch the action on the track for free!

I suggest you park around N52° 03.835 / W001° 01.617 at the entrance to Hazelborough Forest off the Dadford to Silverstone road. That way you'll visit this cache after Silverstone Circuit No.1 - STOWE CORNER and Silverstone Circuit No.2 - BECKETTS caches. Alternatively, if you want to do this one in a hurry, there is parking at N52° 04.912 / W001° 00.896. Access to this location is via a bridge over the A43 from Silverstone Village:

This Cache is located at:
N52° 04.739 / W001° 00.500.

To get there, use the footpaths and bridleways provided. They're not always very clear, so a copy of OS Landranger Map 152 might be useful. It's not necessary to enter any part of the Silverstone site to complete these caches, although there are many points where this is possible. Motorsport is dangerous; Don't make a Grand Prix of yourself, play safe! On a less serious note, it's as well this corner is called just 'Copse', as the wood behind it has the full name of 'Cheese Copse'. "Michael Schumacher has spun at Cheese!" just doesn't have quite the same ring, does it? :-)

It's not required to log this cache, but if you can please include your Sector Time for this cache. That's how long it took to get to it from your car, or from SC2 if doing them in numerical order. Sector two would be how long it takes to reach SC2 from SC3 and the third sector is from SC2 to SC1. If doing them in number order, Sector 1 is from parking to SC1, sector 2 is from SC1 to SC2 and sector 3 is from SC2 to SC3. If you time yourself on all three sections (a digital watch with a stopwatch feature is ideal for this) please also log your overall 'lap' time. I hope that makes sense!

Happy, and speedy hunting!

The cache originally contained:
1x Blank 90 minute Tape.
1x Party Popper.
1x Kermit the Frog with a telescope.
2x Flyers for places of local interest.
1x Odeon Cinema preview CD-ROM.
Plus the usual: Cache notice, log book, pencil and pen.

Things to enjoy while searching for this cache:
Sheep and stands co-exist. They dont seem to mind all the noise. There again, perhaps they have all been deafened? Click here to see a larger version of this picture Car parks everywhere! On a busy day - such as the British GP - all these caches may be hard to get without being spotted. On the up-side, you will be able to save hundreds of pounds and still get to see the action! While you're in the area I suggest you try the other two caches in this series, plus The Hornets The Church in the Fields cache or The Secret Garden by Dan and Pid. Both are within short driving distance.

A small experiment - Please feel free to rate your visit to this cache out of ten in your log.
