Mallowan, DBE (15 September 1890 – 12 January 1976), commonly
known as Agatha Christie, was an English crime fiction
writer.
She also wrote romance novels under the name Mary
Westmacott, but is best remembered for her 80 detective novels and
her successful West End theatre plays. Her works, particularly
featuring detectives Hercule Poirot or Miss Jane Marple, have given
her the title the 'Queen of Crime' and made her one of the most
important and innovative writers in the development of the
genre.
Agatha Christie was born in Torquay, she spent
much of her life in the area. She played here as a child, worked
and socialised here as a young lady and gathered ideas that were to
come to life in her best selling books with immortal characters
such as Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot. The series of caches are
situated near places connected with her life in and around
Torbay.
This cache is placed close to Churston Station -
Hercule Poirot arrived at Churston Station (named as Nassecombe
Station) to join the mystery in 'Dead Man's Folly'. The station
also appears in 'The ABC Murders'. The station was used frequently
by Agatha Christie when journeying to her home at
Greenway.
