Milton Keynes Central Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

milvus-milvus: I've decided to archive this cache. It's been pushed too far into it's hole twice now. It was only designed in the first place to give me some entertainment from my office window - and we're moving to the other side of MK soon. Onwards and upwards - better caches to follow soon... Geocache Description:

A short offset-micro set outside Milton Keynes Central railway station.
The cache involves a very short walk, but has been rated 2* for difficulty because of the busy location.

Somewhere under the rainbow...
Look at the end of the rainbow...?

The coordinates above will take you to the middle of Station Square. This can be a rather busy location, especially during the rush hour, so some subtefuge will be necessary. A mobile phone is a good prop, or maybe one of those slotted helmets and a pair of cycle clips perhaps? Others have been seen in jogging suits, pretending to exercise around the cache site. Failing that, make your trip at the weekend...

Parking can be a problem is this area, but if you can find a space, you should be able to complete the cache comfortably within 15 mins - which will only cost you 20p in the meter (but avoid the £5 long-stay meters). If you're stuck for somewhere to leave the car, there are usually spaces to be found outside Argos (next block South). You will need to solve a couple of easy clues to get the final coordinates.

1. The Wolverton Bloomer.

This is a full-scale model of the Class B16 or "Bloomer" - probably the most famous class of engine produced just up the line at Wolverton from 1851-1862. Some 40 similar engines were built, and the last was scrapped in 1888. The number on the side of the engine is ABCD. Insert A, B, C and D into the final coords below.

2. "O, Wert thou in the cauld blast".

'O, wert thou in the cauld blast
On yonder lea, on yonder lea,
My plaidie to the angry airt,
I’d shelter thee, I’d shelter thee.
Or did Misfortune’s bitter storms
Around thee blaw, around thee blaw,
Thy bield should be my bosom,
To share it a’, to share it a’.’

This sculpture by Ronald Rae was inspired by the poem of the same name by Robert Burns. It is carved out of Scottish Granite, and took 10 months to complete.

He says of the work ‘The subject matter of the sculpture, like the poem, is universal in its theme of sharing and expressing warmth, tenderness and love in times of trouble’. Hmmm.

The sculpture was completed in 19EF. Insert E and F into the final coords below.
Plug these answers into the final coordinates, which are given by:

N52 02.BED W000 46.FCA
Being a micro, the cache contains just a small log book and pencil, and a magnet to help keep it in place (now there's a clue for you!). We also managed to squeeze in one of our signature item red kite lapel badges. When you find the cache, turn around and give a wave in the direction of the Station. If I'm in the office I'll be watching you!

There are a lot of other works of art scattered around Milton Keynes. If you'd like to see some more, why not try the go.CMK cache by zensunni or Artwalk/Jog/Run by Simply Paul while you are here?
