The bridge (more likely bridges) is no longer there -- all
that remains are the support timbers that were probably sawn off at
the waterline at some point. There are now 30-40cm thick trees
growing in the rail bed.
I have heard from a couple of different sources that a steam
locomotive was lost at this site at some point in it's history. The
bridge burned, and the engine was either on it at the time, or
attempted to cross during or shortly after the fire. I've had at
least one person indicate that the crew was lost with the engine
and were not recovered. Despite several attempts, I have found
neither evidence of the engine at the site, nor any firm
documentation of an incident of any sort involving this bridge.
While it may be possible to complete this cache in a day, it
makes for a nice weekend canoe trip. The cache is about a 2-3 hour
paddle from the access to Chadwick Lake, including a single 300
(approx) metre portage. The "
Little Scovil. Little Culvert." cache makes a nice side
trip.
NOTE
This cache is extremely remote, and intended for experienced
wilderness campers only. Do not attempt it alone, and make sure
others know where you are going and when you are expected back.
There is currently no cell service at any point on the
route. |
Cache contains MBGA Geocoin #372
as a FTF prize.
