Geocache Description:

This is NOT just a cache, IT's an adventure. You will see some great looking horses on your way to this cache. it's very pretty country.

This cache requires the use of triangulation. It is set up to be done in the field with a pencil, paper and calculator. You will need a scientific calculator, or at least a cacluator that has trigonometric functions such as sin/cosine/tangent. Could be done graphically, but what's the fun of that?

Attached to this webpage is an Application Note describing how to use 2-dimensional triangulation with as few calculations as possible, to complete this multi-cache, written in word document format. Download this App note for a reference. This could be completed graphically but not as accurate. This cache is similar to the Epicenter cache by RK.

The first stage of this multicache is a micro-cache. You will find a paper providing the UTM coordinates of a second known point and the distance from the unknown cache site. You will also find the distance from this micro-cache to the unknown cache. You will have 2 known points and 3 known distances relating to a triangle. The extra information which allows you to quickly solve this triangulation exercise in the field is the quadrant is provided which will give you the single solution to the 2 triangulated points. Use UTM to solve this exercise. Using Lat/Long may throw the solution off by a few hundred feet even when using the lat/long distance equation that includes the curvature of the earth.

The second cache is an ammo box with log book and lots of goodies inside. You may notice this cache is somehow connected to another cache in the local area. this connection is left up to the cachers to figure out.

Solving for and completing this exercise will prepare the dedicated geocacher to complete the following cache, 3-D Triangulation Cache in Poci that requires 3-Dimensional triangulation. This includes elevation as well as 2D coordinates. This type of triangulation requires use of some analytical geometry skills which references are provided. This type of skill is useful in understanding how the GPS system works by a series of interconnected spheres and is fundemental to the GPS system operation.

Please hide and replace both caches as good or better as you found them. It is an open range area and subject to muggles quite frequently. Thank you.
