Geocache Description:

Located in the Hiwassee/Ocoee Scenic River State Park

Oh Yeah! It is winter and time to go camping!

There will certainly be plenty of room to camp, and there will be many activities. Check back for more updates coming soon!

The campout will begin Friday, February 18th. We are planning for a two night campout, but you can stay as few or many as you choose. For more information on the campground visit this webpage: Hiwassee/Ocoee Scenic River State Park

Camping rates are as follows:

  • $12 per night for up to 4 people and $0.50 per additional person for a maximum of 8 people per site.
  • $9 per night for people 62 years and over
  • Update: The Overflow area will not be available due to the recent wet weather.
  • Free primitive campsites are available up the road a couple miles in the National Forest. They are on Spring Creek
  • Update: There is room for you to bring your camping trailer if you don't want to tent camp; the rates are the same.

There is a bath house with heated showers in the center of the campground and is close to most campsites.

Also, for those who want to attend but aren't interested in the excitement of winter camping there is a lodge nearby. Visit their webpage at: Gee Creek Lodge

  • There is a beach volleyball court available if anyone is interested.
  • There are excellent riding trails if you have a horse to bring. These trails are open only to horses and hiking. There is even a campground being developed at the Lost Corral specifically for people with horse trailers. I am not sure if it will be available for use, but if anyone is interested in this facility we can inquire about it.
  • There is a cave nearby for anyone interested in subterranean exploration, a cache might even be hidden in there! If you are interested in this bring plenty of clothes because it is a muddy cave!
  • Anyone wanting to join the GEOSET Polar Bear club and go swimming in the Ocoee River will have the opportunity to log the Ocoee Rock Hop cache. AB4N will be on hand to make sure you don't stay in too long and get hypothermia, and has promised to hop in himself just for the fun of it
  • There will be plenty of caches to find for those who want a more tame adventure.
  • The Friday evening meal will be partially provided for anyone interested, it will consist of campfire stew packs. If you have not had one of these they are delicious! The provisions will include various vegetables, seasonings, and tin foil. If you want to add meat you will need to bring that yourself. We will also provide plasticware and drink for this meal. If you are interested in trying a stew pack please let us know so we have an idea of how much food to bring.

You are also welcome to attend on a daily basis without camping, just come and join in the fun. In addition to the caches that are already in the area, many new ones are already being built and will be listed soon.

Update: There is a restaurant near the campground that is said to serve excellent meals. They also have karaoke on Saturday night, so those interested can sing their hearts out
