Geocache Description:

This bushwalking accessed cache is not in the Kosciuszko National Park; rather it backs onto the Tapin Tops National Park in the Manning Valley, NSW. You would need the Bobin, 9334-1S 1:25,000 map for planning, or other detailed electronic mapping.

To place this cache I had hoped to come in from Bobin Creek Road, then up a 4wd road to the west of Snowy Mt, through Tapin Tops NP. But, there are 6 river fords, and the recent rain had made the river really fast, and I piked out. Instead, I came in from Swans Road.

Recommend: Turning off Bulga Rd onto Bobin Ck Rd, at S31° 42.101’ E152° 16.725’, see photo. Then drive some 5 km to where you can park near the locked gate/ ‘4wd’ entrance to the National Park at GR 302953 (Australian Geodatum ’66), or ~ S31° 40.426’ E152° 15.921’. Then walk about 2 km up the dirt track to GR 308967, or ~ S31° 39.670’ E152° 16.301’. Somewhere here you will need to choose your best way UP!
At the top, the Northern end is slightly higher, and depending on the day, the satellites should get you within 4m. Used a Foretrex 101 and eTrex camo until they settled and agreed.

Personally, I turned off Bulga Rd at S31° 40.289’ E152° 17.742’ onto Swans Rd, & parked across the ford at S31° 39.921’ E152° 17.620’. Then went West up to the start of the ‘Cadastral Road’ as shown on the Topo map. This is especially overgrown at the lower end. I recommend you take a decent sized stick to deal with the wayward lantana, and hold off any snakes you may come across. Saw two goannas that’s all.

There is a ‘fence’ approximately between S31° 39.925’ E152° 17.301’ and S31° 39.840’ E152° 17.195’, and if you keep that on your northern side you should have a clearer walk.

NB. My GPSr track log for this placement showed I was away from the car for 4hr 25 min, and covered a distance of 7.8km. It took me 2 hours to get up, and 1hr 15min to come back down, as I had already cleared some of the overgrown track. The tick attribute should also cover LEECHES. Bring your repellant. Take at least a litre of water.

PS. If you’re coming from the East, watch out for a fallen tree that has a lot of barbed wire wrapped around it.
PPS. If you are a member of Geocaching Australia, log onto ‘You’ve Got Mail’, GA0277, before you go, and see if you can log a unique letterbox on the way. I saw a couple on the Bulga Rd - #2050, & 2240.
