Yanar Dag
Yanar Dag (Azerbaijani: Yanar Dağ, meaning "burning mountain") is a natural gas fire which blazes continuously near Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan (a country which itself is known as "the Land of Fire"). Flames jet into the air 3 metres from a thin, porous sandstone layer. The flame burns fairly steadily, as it involves a steady seep of gas from the subsurface. Based on a story it was fired by a shepherd in the 1950s. The Yanar Dag fire is never extinguished. Around this open fireplace the atmosphere is filled with the smell of gas.
Only a handful of fire mountains exist today in the world, and most are located in Azerbaijan. The reason offered for the Yanar Dag fires is the result of hydrocarbon gases emanating from below the earth's surface.

Yanardağ ( azərbaycanca yanan dağ ) Azərbaycanın (bu ölkə həm də “Odlar yurdu” kimi də tanınır) paytaxtı Bakı şəhəri yaxınlığında daimi yanan təbii qaz alovudur.Alov nazik və məsaməli qumdaşı qatından havaya 3 metr yüksəlir.Yer altından gələn daimi qaz axıntıları səbəbindən alov kifayət qədər sabit (davamlı) yanır.Deyilənlərə görə 1950-ci illərdə bir çoban tərəfindən yandırılıb.Yanardağda alov heç vaxt söndürülmür.Bu açıq ocağın ətrafında hava qaz qoxusu dolub.
Bu gün dünyada yalnız bir neçə yanan dağlar vardır ki,bunların da çoxu Azərbaycanda yerləşir.Yanardağdakı alovun səbəbi aşağıdan yerin səthinə doğru yüksələn karbohidrogen qazıdır.
